Direct Messaging & Chats
fun.app offers two ways to have conversations: Direct Messages and Chats.
Direct Messages
Direct Messages (DMs) are private, one-on-one or group conversations between specific users. You can access your messages at any time by clicking the Messages icon in the top Tool Bar.
Chats
Chats are public or semi-public spaces where large groups of people can communicate in real time. Unlike DMs, chats are open to join or leave freely, making them ideal for ongoing conversations tied to communities, topics, or user spaces.
Each chat contains one or more rooms, which are focused conversation threads within the chat. When a chat is first created, it includes a single room called “general”, but the creator can add more rooms to organize discussions by topic or purpose.
Chats function slightly differently depending on the site you’re on:
Community
Chats are owned and managed by communities. You’ll find them in the right sidebar of any community page.
News
Chats are tied to topics and subtopics, and are created by network admins. They appear in the right sidebar of topic or subtopic pages.
Page
Chats are user-created and live in the right sidebar of a user’s public Page.
Social
Chats are created within Groups, and appear in the right sidebar of each group’s page.
Chats allow for fast, real-time conversation and are designed to support large-scale discussions within organized rooms.
