Headlines & Articles

Headlines & Articles
On News, there are two primary post types: Headlines and Articles. These formats give you flexibility in how you contribute to the conversation — from quick updates and takes to long-form reporting and commentary.

Both appear in your News profile and can be followed, bookmarked, or shared by others.

Headlines
Headlines are short-form posts designed for sharing timely updates, reactions, links, or observations. They’re fast to write and easy to read — ideal for:

Posting a link to a news article with your commentary
Reacting to a current event or development
Sharing a quote, statistic, or chart
Posting a single image or short video
Making a brief announcement or alert
Each headline post supports text, images, video, and external links — but they’re designed to stay concise. Think of them as focused, on-topic updates that contribute to the broader information flow without becoming chatty.

Headlines can also be reposted to help circulate content you think others should see.

Articles
Articles are long-form posts intended for deeper dives — such as original reporting, essays, analysis, or curated summaries. If Headlines are a quick signal, Articles are the full story.

Articles support:

Rich text formatting (headers, lists, quotes, links)
Embedded media (images, videos, audio)
Inline references and citations
Keyword tagging for discovery
Optional footnotes or links to sources
Articles are best used when you want to explore a topic with structure and depth — whether it’s a 500-word perspective piece or a 3,000-word feature.

When readers visit your News profile, they can quickly see the difference between your Headlines and Articles, and browse accordingly.

Which Should I Use?
Use a Headline when:

You want to quickly share or react to something
The idea is self-contained in one paragraph or less
You’re linking to or boosting someone else’s story

Use an Article when:

You’re writing something original, thoughtful, or structured
You need more space to explain or persuade
You want to publish something lasting and referenceable
Both post types support public commenting, reposting, and saving to Collections. And both help shape your reputation and voice on News.
