Your News profile
Your News Profile
Your News profile is your public presence on the News site — the place where others can find your original posts, follow your perspective, and explore your contributions to the conversation.
All of your posts to News — including headline posts, articles, and reposts — will appear here in a unified feed. This feed only includes your content from News, not from other sites on the network.
In addition to your posts, your profile includes fields that help define who you are and what you cover. These are especially useful for those using News to build a reputation as a writer, curator, or subject-matter expert.
Display Name
Your display name is how others will see you on News — it appears next to your username on your posts and profile. It can be changed at any time and is specific to News (each site on the network has its own display name).
Username
Your username was set when you created your account and appears in your profile URL (e.g., fun.news/u/username). It is consistent across all sites in the network and cannot be changed.
Bio
Your bio appears in the “About” section of your profile and can be used to describe your background, interests, expertise, or affiliations. Many users use this section to explain what kind of content they focus on or link to ongoing work.
Tagline
The tagline is a short line of text that appears near the top of your profile. You can use it to describe your beat, perspective, or voice — or simply provide a quick intro to who you are.
Avatar
Your avatar is your profile photo on News. It helps personalize your presence and can be changed at any time. Avatars are site-specific — your avatar on News does not affect how you appear on other parts of the network.
Banner
Your banner appears at the top of your News profile and may also be used in profile previews throughout the site (such as discovery cards or search results). A well-designed banner can help give your profile a professional or thematic identity.
Website
You can add a personal or professional website to your profile — this will appear as a clickable link for others to visit.
Social Links
You may also add links to other platforms (like Twitter/X, LinkedIn, or YouTube). These icons will appear in your profile header and help connect your News presence with your broader identity online.
Keywords
You can assign up to five keywords to your News profile to improve your visibility in discovery tools and search results. These keywords help categorize you for others browsing by topic — for example, if you post regularly about Climate, Startups, or Media Criticism, selecting those as keywords makes your profile more discoverable to people interested in those areas.
