What is Community?

What is Community?
Community is a site built around topic-based groups where users can gather to post, share, and discuss. Communities can be public (anyone can view or join) or private (only visible to members, and membership is invite-only). You must be a member of a community to post within it.

Each community is led by its creator, who can assign one or more moderators. Moderators can manage posts, remove members, and update community settings. Creators retain ultimate control and can dismiss moderators at any time.

Note: Failure to follow network conduct guidelines may result in the loss of community privileges — including the ability to create or moderate.

Creating a Community
To create your own community, scroll to the bottom of the "My Communities" section in the left sidebar and click + Create Community. You'll be able to set the name, privacy, and description, then start building your space.

Community Features

📌 Posting
Members can create posts using a variety of content types including:

Text
Images
Videos
Links
Polls
Posts appear in the community feed and — depending on privacy settings — may also appear in:

The feeds of users who follow the community
The feeds of users who follow the poster
Interest and keyword-based feeds across the network

🗂 Topics & Subtopics
Moderators can organize a community using Topics and Subtopics, helping users explore content more easily.

A post can be made to the main community (General), a Topic, or a Subtopic.
All posts appear in the main community feed but are labeled with their Topic/Subtopic.
Subtopic posts also appear in the broader Topic feed.
This system allows flexible navigation while keeping content structured.

🏷 Keywords & Interests
Communities can be tagged with keywords and associated with interests to improve discoverability across the network.

Keywords make your community easier to find in search, Explore, and interest pages.
Posts made within a community automatically benefit from the community's keyword associations.

🎨 Flair
Flair is a custom tagging system created by community moderators. It allows members to tag their posts with specific labels relevant to the community’s content.

Each community has its own set of flairs.
Clicking on a flair (in the right sidebar) opens a feed of all posts using that flair.

📜 Rules
Moderators and creators can define community rules, displayed in the right sidebar. These rules set expectations for behavior and content within the community.

Violating these rules may result in:

Post removal
Temporary suspension
Permanent ban from the community

💬 Chats
Moderators can optionally create a chat for their community — a real-time space for conversation among members.

Chats live in the right sidebar of the community page.
Communities may have multiple rooms (channels) within their chat.
Joining a community does not automatically subscribe you to its chat — you must join it separately.
